Hinds Building Services is extremely delighted to partner with great community organisations, social enterprises and educational bodies, including schools, to support activities which engineer and empower positive, meaningful and impactful social change.
Meet our major 2020 sponsee, Brave Hearts.
We hope that this interview on her journey to establishing a vibrant community-based group would inspire you to further greatness .
For further details on accessing corporate sponsorship, see the link at the bottom of this page.
She is the mind, heart and engine behind one of Hinds Building Services' main corporate sponsor partnerships.
Tell us about the founder - who are you?
Dr Adebola Adisa is a GP in the North East of England. She has also authored three books: The Magic of Destiny (under the pseudo name Jessica Dice), Kaleidoscopes and her latest book is #BEINSPIRED, an e-book.
She promotes healthy behaviour and increases awareness about health conditions through her write ups on social media. She is the founder of Brave Hearts North East a community interest charity which organises various events to inspire the local community.
What is Brave Hearts?
Brave Hearts is a community-based group in the North East of England.
We are a registered Community Interest Company; Brave Hearts North East CIC.
Why were you passionate about starting Brave Hearts, and when did you begin?
I founded a WhatsApp group in May 2018, in response to a group of friends’ request to join me in the Darlington 2018 5K Race for Life.
The previous year, I completed the Darlington 5K Race for life. While I felt a huge sense of achievement, I felt alone and thought more could be done to encourage other ladies like me to join thousands of other ladies running to raise money for a worthy cause. The WhatsApp group was a way to achieve this dream and it was so successful that 5 of us ran in the 2018 Darlington Race for Life. The WhatsApp group was renamed Brave Hearts in 2019.
The interview continues below.
What is your vision for Brave Hearts?
Community and friendship is at the heart of everything we do. Our focus is on building lasting relationships to help support, celebrate, empower and inspire our community. We also believe in finding ways to achieve holistic health and wellbeing.
Why is this corporate sponsorship helpful in achieving your vision for Brave Hearts?
So far, all our events are free. We do this in order to make them accessible to everyone. At present, the only way that we can continue to organise our events at very negligible fees or free of charge is to have sponsors.
In 2019, over 20 Brave Hearts women and children participated in the Darlington 5K Race for Life. We ran in our beautiful pink shirts which was sponsored by Hinds Building Services (HBS), a Darlington Business. This has had positive impact and increased Brave Heart’s visibility to our community. We continue to welcome support from HBS and other local businesses and individuals in our community.
What is your most successful event to date?
All our events have been a huge success which I attribute to the commitment and passion of our members. If I have to choose, I will have to say the Career Talk event which was held on 19th February 2020. We hosted 10 secondary school students and officially launched the Braveheart Mentorship program for students in our community. Mayor Nick Wallis, the Mayor of Darlington and three professionals based in County Durham were our guest speakers. The youth are the future, and being able to play our part in inspiring and helping them develop strong foundations is a huge privilege.
How do you envision that this CIC will positively impact Darlington and the wider County Durham?
Brave Hearts is touching and inspiring people, one at a time, through small group events and by building lasting friendships. This will no doubt bring about positive ripple effects that will gradually impact the whole of Darlington and the surrounding towns in the County Durham area.
Can others join? Is there any specific cost or level of commitment required?
Yes, we welcome people who support the Brave Hearts vision and those who are looking to develop friendships. We do not pay dues at present, but welcome donations from individuals and corporate entities.

Thinking ambitiously, how can you see Brave Hearts developing over the next five years?
We hope that we can collaborate with similar interest groups and build bigger support networks for people in our community and beyond. Our mentorship programme is one which we hope will become a gold standard and reference point for secondary schools in our county.
Is there anything else that you would want to say?
Thank you for giving me this unique opportunity to speak about Brave Hearts.
